Paul Merson just opened up about what he just heard about Chelsea right now; I am deeply shocked.

Sky Sports Pundit Paul Merson has claimed he was shocked to be reminded how far away Chelsea have been from winning the Premier League in recent years and not even coming close to winning by every means and this is not who Chelsea was during the time of Abramobvich.

Speaking to Sky Sports that the Blues have become nothing more than a cup team in recent seasons.

This current season has seen Chelsea as far away from competing as ever, with them languishing in the bottom half of the table with just a handful of games to go.

All hopes have been dashed out around when Chelsea crashed out of the UCL too but come on who even thought Chelsea will come up against Real Madrid in the Champions league let alone win it? Now the focus is on coming up to the level of Europa conference or Europa league for next season and avoid being relegated.

However, Merson believes that not being close to the top in England has stemmed from years of not competing for the Premier League.

He said: “Chelsea are in a bit of a bother at the moment. There was a stat today and when I heard it I thought ‘wow, yeah you’re right’ – in the last six years they’ve been nowhere. They’ve won the Champions League and Europa. In the league they’ve been 30 points, 25 points, 16 points, 20 points.

“They’ve not even looked like winning the league in the last six years. Everybody’s saying what’s going on at Chelsea? They’ve been a cup team. They need to get the manager in, because their next window is massive. They need to get a centre forward, they need to clear out what they need to clear out.”

Julian Nagelsmann is seemingly currently leading the race to become the next manager of Chelsea, after he was sacked by Bayern Munich a few weeks ago.
