Betrayal: Ex-Chelsea player have said he wants Arsenal to sign Chelsea target Caicedo from Brighton; Here is why.
Craig Burley has told Arsenal that signing Brighton’s Moises Caicedo would further strengthen Mikel Arteta’s team for the challenges ahead.
The Gunners will be unveiling their £105 signing Declan Rice in a matter of hours but Granit Xhaka has left for the German Bundesliga, while Thomas Partey may be heading to Serie A.
Speaking on ESPN, Burley said that allowing Xhaka and Partey leave this summer was good business by the Gunners.
Caicedo is being targeted by Burley’s former club Chelsea this season as a replacement for N’Golo Kante who has left for Saudi Arabia.
“But if they could sell them [Xhaka and Partey] for a bit more money, then you would be asking for another player and it would be Caicedo from Brighton.
“He is 21. He can defend, get forward, and is very good on the ball. He still has more to come out of him and he has the energy to cover the pitch.
“I think that would be a better balance between him and Declan Rice, with Martin Odegaard somewhere floating around,” Burley said.
