Manchester United press conference as Erik ten Hag gives Everton team news and injury latest
Manchester United press conference LIVE Erik ten Hag gives Everton team news and injury latest
Erik ten Hag will be speaking to the press this afternoon as he looks ahead to Manchester United’s upcoming clash with Everton in the Premier League.
United are the most in-form team over the last five matches in the competition, but they know there is no room for complacency against an Everton side looking to bounce back from their recent 10-point deduction.
The pressure is on United ahead of a pivotal week that will see them face Everton, Galatasaray and Newcastle away from home and potentially shape the very success of their season.
Ten Hag is expected to issue some early team news and injury updates ahead of the match with United possibly without as many as nine players for their trip to Goodison Park. The United manager could also be asked about recent reports suggesting he has fallen out with Raphael Varane.
How it stands
A reminder of the Premier League table ahead of the return to action this weekend.
United sit top of the form table and are sixth in the division, while Everton are now in the relegation zone following their points deduction.
Raphael Varane faces uncertain United future
We could also get an update on Raphael Varane’s future at the press conference.
Last night, The Daily Mail claimed the defender’s working relationship with Erik ten Hag had practically broken down after a frank exchange of views took place after Varane was dropped for the Manchester derby last month.
The Frenchman has only made three substitute appearances since and is said to be unhappy that Jonny Evans has been chosen ahead of him, and Victor Lindelof was then selected to play alongside Harry Maguire against Luton two weeks ago when Evans was injured.
Ten Hag could lift the lid on what has really happened.
Injuries on the agenda
Erik ten Hag will be expected to issue some further injury updates this afternoon, with United possibly without as many as nine players for their trip to Goodison Park.
Earlier this week, the United manager confirmed striker Rasmus Hojlund is touch-and-go to be available for Sunday’s trip to face Everton.
The striker was forced off in the second half of United’s 1-0 win over Luton Town prior to the international break with a muscle strain. He was withdrawn with just over 10 minutes of regulation time left and went straight down the tunnel after consultation with the club’s medical team.
Christian Eriksen, who was also forced off in the win over Luton, will ‘take some weeks’ before he is in a strong enough condition to make his return.
