Pochettino speaks on Chelsea’s stance on Conor Gallagher amid interest from Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino has offered a fresh update on Conor Gallagher’s future at Chelsea. Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing the England international in the January transfer window.
football.london understands the Chelsea midfielder wants to remain at the club beyond the January transfer window as he enters the final 18 months of his current deal. The 23-year-old has even made it clear he wants to sign a new contract at the club.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup clash against Preston this weekend, Pochettino was quizzed on Gallagher’s future at Stamford Bridge. “We need to talk about many things but it is clear Conor has still a one-year-and-a-half-contract with us,” the Chelsea boss said.
“Like all of the players at different clubs when you arrive at this point it is about to talk, to take a decision for the future. Of course, all of this is going to be between the club and the player.
“Nothing to announce, nothing to say. The club is happy with him, he is happy here and at the moment nothing to say.”
Despite Pochettino’s desire to keep hold of Gallagher, the final decision rests with Chelsea’s ownership. Reports have stated that Gallagher could leave the club for as little as £35million as the Blues look to do more business in the transfer market.
“He’s important because of Chelsea values,” Pochettino said on Gallagher last month. “He’s a product that came from the academy.
“Of course, he loves the club and he’s very committed. Yes, I think he is a really important player, always the type of player that the coaching staff want, and the team.”
football.london understands there have been no talks yet between Spurs and the west Londoners regarding a move for the midfielder.
