Jacobs says: “Mudryk’s arrival isn’t the end of Chelsea’s business. They are still exploring Moises Caicedo, Marcus Thuram and Noni Madueke. Thuram is the ‘budget’ option from the three but hotly in demand. Chelsea have to convince him to join now as opposed to picking his next club over the summer.

“The one to watch in midfield is Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. Graham Potter would love to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Brighton CEO Paul Barber told me he’s yet to receive an offer, but there is a real feeling within the industry that Chelsea will move.

“Brighton will use the Marc Cucurella deal (£62m) and no doubt Mudryk’s fee to their advantage should negotiations proceed. But even if Caicedo doesn’t arrive in January, I fully expect Chelsea to try again in the summer.”
