Having come through at St Etienne, Fofana moved to Leicester City before eventually joining Chelsea last year.

He told Telefoot: “I’m a real fan, and it’s the club of my life. That’s what made me love football from a young age, I was born an OM supporter. It holds me and I look thoroughly, and go OM!”

Fofana was born and raised in Marseille and had a message for coach Igor Tudor and his players.

He added: “Stop believing that we are not going to finish on the podium! Guys, I’m counting on you, we’ll finish on the podium (top three) this year!”
