One of the real high points of tonight’s game (which was largely painful to watch until the late flurry of goals) was Alfie Gilchrist.

His name being on the teamsheet for a full debut created a lot of buzz, and he didn’t disappoint.

Playing at right back, he had a tough game as his team were surprisingly put on the back foot, with Preston’s best attacker Liam Millar challenging him repeatedly.

But Gilchrist stood up to the challenge and performed really well. Of course attacking from full back isn’t his game, but defensively he coped brilliantly, as the stats showed.

He completed 100% of his passes and dribbles, 94% of his passes and won both ground duels. We’ve already seen glimpses of his commitment and passion, now we’re seeing his quality too.
