The Kylian Mbappe transfer story has been slow burning for years – it seemed to have fizzled out last year when he commited to PSG, but it’s burst into flames again in the last few weeks, and now there’s no stopping the blaze.

Chelsea are being drawn into it, and the closing off of various avenues is only making a move to the Premier League more likely. Real Madrid seem reluctant to pay for him this year when they know they can get him on a free in 12 months. PSG don’t want him in the squad if he’s going to leave for free, and will sell to anyone who can pay. The best offer so far comes from Saudi Arabia, but Mbappe has already turned it down.

So that means a move – even just on loan – to the Premier League is increasingly his best option. The i report that the Blues, along with Man U and Spurs, have made enquiries, and that they’re all increasingly convinced that a lack of other options makes a move to them a real possibility.
