Speaking to Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard, Chilwell explained that the team know they can’t rest on the laurels of one (very scrappy and fairly lucky) win. They could get very much brought back to earth tomorrow night by a Dortmund team who have won ten in a row.

“We know the performances and the results haven’t been up to Chelsea’s standards. That’s all we care about,” the left back explained.

“We know that we need to keep working hard. Saturday was a win but we don’t want to get carried away. We want to win every game at Stamford Bridge.

“It is a step in the right direction but we need to push on now. If we can get a win on Tuesday, that can hopefully set us up for the rest of the season.”

A win tomorrow night would keep us in the Champions League, giving the whole season some meaning. For us to be out of contention in every competition by the start of March is not what we’ve come to expect as Chelsea fans, and the team know that the season hangs by a thread here.
