Here is what Mykhailo Mudryk did against Liverpool that Graham Potter and Chelsea will love.
Against Liverpool, there is something Mykhailo Mudryk so quietly that it did not get all that noticed but once it was seen later and we bet Graham Potter and Chelsea fans will love this.
Graham Potter was clearly delighted with what he saw from Mykhailo Mudryk as he made his Chelsea debut in the goalless draw with Liverpool at the weekend.
“Yes, he was really good,” Potter replied when asked if he was happy with what he saw from the Ukrainian. “He’s only been with us a couple of days and he’ll get better the more he is with us and the more we understand him and the more he understands us. But promising signs.”
Mudryk came into the side after just a couple of training sessions with his new Chelsea teammates at Cobham. The 22-year-old had only put pen-to-paper on a long-term contract the weekend before after the Blues swooped in ahead of London rivals Arsenal at the last minute.
Introduced in the 55th minute in place of Lewis Hall, Mudryk was immediately involved in the match. He quickly drew a cynical foul from James Milner, who was playing at right-back for Liverpool, and Jurgen Klopp rather swiftly brought the speedier Trent Alexander-Arnold on to try and combat the dangerous Mudryk.
Chelsea supporters on social media were understandably very excited with what they saw from Mudryk during his brief time on the pitch. One thing they will love, as well as Potter and the Chelsea recruitment team responsible for the signing of Mudryk, is how many times he got on the ball in dangerous positions.
As well as this impressive stat, Mudryk showcased his frightening speed in his brief cameo on Merseyside. The Ukraine international recorded a top speed of 36.63km/h, which is the fastest of any Premier League player so far this season. Anthony Gordon of Everton (36.61km/h), Darwin Nunez of Liverpool (36.53km/h), Erling Haaland of Manchester City (36.22km/h) and Denis Zakaria of Chelsea (36.09km/h) complete the list.
So, Chelsea fans will be desperate to see Mudryk in action again. But, unfortunately for them, they will have to wait until next Friday when they take on Fulham at Stamford Bridge due to the side being out of the FA Cup that takes place this weekend.
Potter will have plenty of time to work with Mudryk and the rest of the squad before their next match. The Chelsea head coach has high hopes for the former Shakhtar Donetsk star.
“He’s had two sessions with us but from watching him at Shakhtar, seeing his quality there, he is dangerous in one-vs-one situations, in the final third and he can make things happen,” Potter said after the draw at Anfield. “He’ll get supporters off their seats.
“Dribbling actions are really high and he knows where the goal is. Our job is to help him settle into the team, help him settle into the country and to the league, and gain an understanding of us and how we can help him.”
