Chelsea may find it hard to convince Evan Ferguson to leave Brighton & Hove Albion next year.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are one club who are interested in signing Evan Ferguson.

However, Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Substack that “he’s very happy” at Brighton and views the Amex Stadium as the perfect place for his development.

Ferguson is a young striker with a lot of talent and has shown that this season, scoring five goals in 11 Premier League appearances, which is quite impressive for a teenager.

It seems Chelsea will have to look elsewhere, though, in their search for a new centre-forward.

Could Chelsea sign Evan Ferguson in the future?
It is definitely not impossible. In fact, while a move in 2024 is starting to look highly unlikely, you would still not rule anything out just yet.

A huge bid may be too hard for Brighton to turn down, with FootballTransfers claiming back in the summer that the Seagulls value the 19-year-old at £100m.

Again, though, it does not seem like a transfer will happen in 2024. Chelsea appear to be prioritising other names.

Ivan Toney, for example, seems to be higher on the Blues’ list as they consider making a bid for him in January.

The Brentford man’s contract expires in 2025, so he should be much more attainable than Ferguson, whose own deal does not end until 2029.

Given Toney’s experience and ability to handle pressure, the England international would probably be the better signing anyway, or at least in the short-term.

Toney has handled the responsibility of taking Brentford to the Premier League and keeping them there well. He scored 20 goals last season and 33 in the Bees’ promotion-winning campaign.

The former Peterborough man is the kind of experienced striker Mauricio Pochettino needs right now. The Argentine already has a couple of young forwards in his squad.
