Manchester United get Marcus Rashford injury update
Manchester United player Marcus Rashford joined in with England team training on Sunday morning to give club and country a massive injury boost.
Rashford was taken off by England manager Gareth Southgate as a precaution during their 2-0 win over Malta on Friday night following an accidental clash with teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold. Southgate suggested the 26-year-old United forward was ‘okay’ at the time.
However, given the club’s current selection woes, United were naturally concerned about Rashford with one eye on their upcoming Premier League game with Everton on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm). Rashford, though, has now returned to training with the Three Lions.
England finish their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a trip to North Macedonia on Monday night (7.45pm). Before that game, the entire 23-man squad minus Kieran Trippier laced up their boots at Tottenham’s training base to put in the final preparations for their upcoming match in Skopje.
Rashford was spotted jogging alongside Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson in warm-up shuttles before the England players were put through their paces by Southgate and the England coaching staff. It means that misfiring United star Rashford should be available on Monday night.
Speaking about Rashford after the Malta win, Southgate said: “I think he [Rashford] is probably okay. We thought given the nature of the collision that it was a chance to get Cole [Palmer] into the game.
“I haven’t assessed too much. But I think he was okay when he came off.”
Despite the Rashford boost, United have mounting injury problems for the Everton contest. Erik ten Hag could be without nine players – including Christian Eriksen (knee), Rasmus Hojlund (muscular) and Casemiro (hamstring) – for that trip to Goodison Park next up.
