Pochettino discusses a player who impressively secured a spot in Chelsea’s plans
Chelsea’s acquisition of Djordje Petrovic in the summer for just £14m (Goal) has proved to be a smart one, with the goalkeeper taking over from the injured Robert Sanchez in recent weeks.
When Sanchez is back, manager Mauricio Pochettino is going to have some serious decisions to make, as Petrovic has done really well since taking over.
The coach was asked about what he made of the Serbia international and how he had adapted to life in a new league and the massive responsibilities of playing in goal for a top club:
“It’s impressive. To come from the MLS to the Premier League and perform the way he’s performing, we are so happy,” Pochettino said in his press conference today.
“He’s a really nice person and professional. He’s showing he can cope with the pressure of playing for Chelsea.”
It sounds like Pochettino is genuinely pleased with the 24 year old’s efforts, and he’s not just paying lip service to him. There genuinely will be a battle for the number one shirt when Sanchez is back. Petrovic has earned his place, and until his form drops off, it would seem very harsh to drop him.
