Raphael Varane’s stance on potentially leaving Man United has been explained
Manchester United defender Raphael Varane’s stance on leaving Old Trafford has been revealed, according to reports.
Raphael Varane has been in and out of the Manchester United team recently with Erik ten Hag preferring the defensive pairing of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans, prior to his injury. Victor Lindelof then got the start against Luton.
The Frenchman has been recently linked with a move to Bayern Munich but the German side are looking more likely to make a move for Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Varane’s stance on a possible move away from Old Trafford, either in January or in the summer, has been revealed.
Varane’s stance
According to a report from TeamTalk, Varane would be open to moving away from Old Trafford in the near future but a move to the Saudi Pro League is not thought to be of interest to the Frenchman.
The former Real Madrid defender won all there was to win during his time in the Spanish capital but has just the Carabao Cup trophy to his name since his move to Old Trafford two years ago.
Bayern have been told that around £30 million would be enough to sign the defender according to Sky Germany.
The report goes on to say that Varane has been shocked about the rate at which he has dropped down the United pecking order with Evans now ahead of him.
Varane was not previously thought to have been open to a move to Old Trafford but now the defender is open to the prospect.
United’s replacement
According to the same report, Jean-Clair Todibo is unsurprisingly the main target but Portuguese duo Antonio Silva and Goncalo Inacio also feature highly on the list of targets.
The three options for the Red Devils are all below the age of 25 which gives an indication of the type of profile that Ten Hag is looking for to play at the heart of the United defence.
Varane’s future at Old Trafford looks far from certain which is a shame due to the Frenchman’s importance in the United side last season alongside the currently injured Lisandro Martinez.
The report also states that Martinez, despite his injury problems, remains the undisputed first-choice but the partner who will be alongside him next season is much less certain.
