Victor Osimhen admits he has Chelsea and Manchester United shirts in his wardrobe amid continued links with the Premier League.

The Nigerian has excelled throughout his time at Napoli and helped power his team to a first Serie A title in more than three decades last term. He’s continued to find the net with regularity and those goalscoring exploits have attracted attention from around Europe.

Back in the summer, several English sides were on the lookout for a new No 9. United eventually secured a deal for Rasmus Hojlund while Chelsea could yet be back in the market as they look to solve their issues in the final third. Osimhen was on their radar in the summer and the player himself has talked up the English top-flight as well as the Blues.

He said on the The Obi One Podcast: “I don’t have a favourite Premier League team but I’ve two jerseys: Chelsea and Man United. Many friends of mine are Chelsea fans, few are Man United fans”. Osimhen also added: “Premier League is the most appreciated league by every African player – it’s a huge league.”

Osimhen broke the 30-goal barrier for the first time last term and has scored six times in 10 outings this season. The player and his club were involved in a spat earlier this season after they posted a TikTok video appearing to mock the striker as he took a penalty.

That situation has since been resolved with Osimhen underlining his commitment to the Italian side. However, interest in the forward remains strong and Napoli have shown themselves willing to part with their top talent for big money over the years.

The Nigerian had to weigh up a mammoth offer from Al-Hilal in the summer as clubs from Saudi Arabia set about raiding European talent as they flexed their financial muscles. Osimhen eventually stayed, but confessed it wasn’t easy to turn down such “crazy” figures.

He confessed: “What was said is true. I have to be honest, I never thought about leaving last summer because Napoli wanted to keep me, but when the offer came from Saudi Arabia, a huge offer, it was hard to refuse. I spoke to Napoli and decided to stay.

“It was crazy… The more I said no, the more they increased the financial offer. It would have changed my life, they never gave up. But I said, no guys, I’m staying.”
