Chelsea just can’t get their midfield fit it seems.

From the start of the season Romeo Lavia has been out, and since then Enzo Fernandez, Lesley Ugochukwu, Carney Chukwuemeka and Moises Caicedo have taken it in turns to be out. Only Conor Gallagher has been able to stay fit consistently.

The latest blow is to do with Lesley Ugochukwu, who was rushed back to fitness to face Wolves on Christmas Eve, only to reinjure his hamstring in that game. Nizaar Kinsella reports that he will now be out for six weeks, just at the worst time. Romeo Lavia also reinjured himself after just minutes back in the team, meaning we’re very short in central midfield.

It’s led to poor Gallagher having to play a superhuman number of minutes, which puts him at major risk of injury. The only good news is that Enzo returned as a sub in our last game, and should hopefully be able to start our game tomorrow.
